***Hutch*** is back

Opening for business this Saturday, March 14, 2009 is www.HutchBMX.com

John DeBruin, HutchBMX owner was quoted from BMXmuseum as saying the following regarding the Saturday launch.

[Pedals &] Other items will be available Saturday such as pad sets, but these vary in available quantity. The chrome Hutch ZAP Pads are just unbelievable, but there are only 30 sets that made it in this first batch, even though my original intent was for 100. Black, red, and blue nylon pads are available too. More colors, brands, and styles coming in the future.

Red, blue, black, gold, and silver anodized die-stamped cages will be available separately for $39.95/pair. These are interchangeable with vintage pedals, and are 40% cheaper than the waterjet-cut replacement cages I made 2 years ago. Just got them back from the anodizers today and they are beautiful.

Restoration decals will be available on the site also, and I will be transitioning away from using eBay as a primary sales point.

Of course, other things are in development, such as hubs, stems, cranks, etc.; so check back often. Something as special as the cranks and hubs will likely get the numbered/1st-gen box style treatment.

The web site will accept Visa, MC, and integrated PayPal as forms of payment. Worldwide shipping calculators are in place, offering multiple delivery options for everyone.

If anyone encounters a problem anywhere on the site, please use the Contact Us page and let me know right away. We are doing site testing this week, but it is impossible to test every scenario.

Before you go thinking that your original ***HUTCH*** items are going to lose value, know that John DeBruin has been involved in the collecting side for a very long time. His recreations all include small nuances that will distinguish new from old and prevent any misrepresentation. For example: the new pedals have 4 extra “nubs” on the pedal bodies. More on the Pedals from John…

Pedals will be 9/16″ thread size only.

4140 pedals will be $189.95/pair, same price as 1983 (estimate, adjusted for inflation). Ti pedals will be $299.95/pair.

Pedals and cages will be sent in special packaging that pays tribute to the original 1st-gen box style. This packaging will change at some point to a 2nd- or 3rd-gen style to continue with tradition.

Pedal packaging will be hand-numbered, starting with #001, and each number will correspond to the exact order of how I receive them as orders are placed. As I stated previously, I will not be keeping #001 for myself, and I will not be offering pre-sales or buddy favors to any of my closest friends (sorry guys). The web site will go live on Saturday, but I do not know the exact time (and probably couldn’t predict since I assume it will have to propagate though the servers). The first guy who completes the first order will receive #001. Everyone has an equal chance at getting a low number.

This concept is going to be interesting to watch. I know this has been a long day in the making and there have been arguement after arguement on the multiple boards over an wide variety of topics. Don’t forget, This Saturday to visit the new www.HutchBMX.com I know we will be watching.

“New” Retro Skyway T/A

It all began with an idea. And Ed Ferri of ColoredTuffs.com was willing to take on the task. What was it? It was “new” old Skyway T/A tubing leftover from the last runs in 1986 and rediscovered at the Skyway warehouse. It was determined there was enough for 150 frames and 195 forks. What a deal. A “new” old Skyway T/A for the collectors and novelists. The F/F combos were then offered to a waiting list signup in April of 2007.

The project was managed to occur in 3 equal numbered sets (50 frames; 65 forks). First to the welders in Ft. Lauderdale, then to the powder coaters in the West Palm Beach area and back to Ed for stickers, packaging and shipping. These were going to be offered in white or raw and stamped on the BB with a “2008″ next to the originally issued 1986 serial number. Approx.$510 + shipping.

Fast forward to July 2008…then August…Tropical Storm Fay hits Florida and disrupts things for a week in places. By the end of August the first batch had made its way to the powder coaters. Meanwhile, the first 50 of the waiting list from 16 months earlier were getting real anxious as the reality set in.

September – Because Ed didn’t have enough to do, between the several business ventures, a tropical storm and his side projects such as this Skyway Frameset, he added a new baby to the family.  Interbike in Vegas came and went as well and there was no rest from the natives. Chants across all the boards began…

“Send our Frames…Send our Frames…Send our Frames”

October 2008 – The first sets start hitting the streets and with that you know there is always at least one…yup. The first one on eBay brings over $800.

Since October there have been many built and torn down to only be re-built again with a different theme all with very happy owners all thanks to Ed Ferri at ColoredTuffs.com

In conclusion of this note, visit ColoredTuffs.com as the next set of 50 is about to be issued. Be sure not to miss out, because once the third set of 50 is done and these find their way to solid collectors they will be all gone. Mine is the one pictured above, be sure to get yours while you still can.

Thanks Ed.
